Coursework from Summer 2011 MAET
On this webpage, I have decided to put all my coursework from my summer hybrid course. This class was CEP 800, 815, and 822 pulled together into an intense hybrid course. We had 2 weeks of face-to-face meeting and then 4 weeks of online classes. Here is what I (along with a few others from my class) have produced from this highly education and entertaining class...

Ball Drop
In this experiment, our group (The LongTails) was supposed to determine whether the ball would fall in front of, next to, or behind us when we were standing, walking, and running. We were then supposed to determine whether a ball dropped straight onto the floor or pushed off a desk would hit the floor first. Most of us were wrong in our hypothesis when predicting what would happen with the balls. Below is the video we made to document our results.

Cognitive Theory of Learning
As a group, The LongTails needed to use Kidspiration to create a concept map to teach how stories and emotions can help memory. We used Jing in order to record how our concept map was created and how memory can be helped using stories and emotions in the classroom.
Backward Design Template
I am creating a sketch of the most needed ideas that my students need to learn. With that, I am asking for tools to teach these ideas to my students in the easiest, most enjoyable, and entertaining ways that I can think of. Here are my ideas so far.

Web 2.0 Jigsaw
Our group (The LongTails) needed to make a Wiki presentation that taught people about 5 Video Tools that could be used online. Here is our Wiki.
(The picture below is an example of a collage using Smilebox, one of the cool tools we critiqued.)

Understanding Understanding
As a group (The LongTails), we wanted to understand how other people understood how lightning struck. We did many interviews, research, and created a video to understand more about the topic. Here is our website.
Exploring Key Topics
In a group activity, Team LongTails created a website that leads readers to different webpages and applications to meeting the needs of diverse learners. Here is the link. Also, here are links to other hot topics about online learning in coordination with educational technology. Click on the links below to be directed to websites created by other groups in the MAET class.
- Developing information literacy, technology skills (in students)
- Meeting the diverse needs of your students, assistive technologies, particularly through the idea of Universal Designs for Learning (UDL)
- Social and ethical uses of technology (particularly digital equity, intellectual property, and copyright) and healthy practices in the use of educational technology
- Using Technology to Facilitate/Develop Creativity and Critical Thinking Skills in Students
- Using Technology to Engage in Professional Development & Leadership
Flash Freeze!
Both MAET summer cohorts decided to do a flash freeze in the International Center's food court. We freezed for 3 minutes to let people know about the MAET program.
Dream IT
My dream for the Journey Room. We were asked to create a grant proposal for the one thing we need most in our classrooms. I believe my students would benefit most from iPhones. Please read more to understand why I feel this way. (Click here to visit the website, or download the Word document below)

Final Reflection Paper
After 6 long weeks, MAET Summer Cohort is now coming to a close. I have learned a lot, and I will miss a lot of my new friends. I plan to use a lot of the information I have learned this summer in my classroom. Here are my final thoughts...

You Thought We Were Done?
A last minute, on the edge of your seat, anxiety driven project. We needed to dub a voice-over to an assigned movie clip. We needed it to reflect a concept we learned in our experience in the MAET Summer Cohort Program. We had 25 minutes. And of course, it didn't work correctly the first time. But in MAET, we always MAKE IT WORK!
